Vulcanexus is an open-source software stack for the development of robotic applications. It offers a variety of libraries and tools for easy and personalized configuration of robotic projects. Vulcanexus is an All-in-One ROS 2 tool set that guarantees a fixed DDS middleware, Fast DDS, and includes selected components to offer optimized robot development.
Vulcanexus combines the advantages of the ROS 2 stack with Vulcanexus’ selected components for an improved user experience. The result is a highly performance-optimized robotic software stack with no need to invest extra time and effort in configuring all the necessary components. Latency and throughput will already show improvements using the default settings.
Yes, it is. Vulcanexus is an extension of ROS 2 which includes some additional packages and tools. Vulcanexus’ middleware is eProsima’s Fast DDS, which implements the OMG DDS Security specification. Among the extended features available using Vulcanexus is PKCS#11 security support that is not yet available in ROS 2.
Vulcanexus and all its components are and always will be free and open-source, working under an Apache 2.0 license.
Vulcanexus is an All-in-One ROS 2 tool set that includes the following components: Fast DDS, Fast DDS Monitor, Micro XRCE-DDS, micro-ROS, Webots, and Shapes Demo. Find more information on each component in the Product section.
Vulcanexus releases will be notified so the user can upgrade to the latest version. The easiest way to upgrade in Ubuntu platforms is to use the package manager.
Vulcanexus when installed from binaries includes some meta-packages that install only those tools that are of interest to the user, but the user can install directly only the required packages without using the meta-packages. When building Vulcanexus from sources, the user can also exclude the uninteresting packages using the colcon command line tool.
Vulcanexus is built over the corresponding ROS 2 version so new components added to that version are automatically available too in Vulcanexus.
Vulcanexus offers personalized, high-quality development assessment and service support to help users that need to take their Vulcanexus implementation to the next level. Find more information at the Support section.
Vulcanexus is the perfect solution for developers and researchers building code for robotic applications. Vulcanexus provides the benefits of ROS 2 together with extra components and features, making it suitable for industries such as the industrial, automotive, IoT, Critical applications, and more.
In order to use Vulcanexus, the only requirement is to source the Vulcanexus installation. The installation guide includes instructions on how to source the environment depending on the kind of installation followed. Being Vulcanexus an All-in-One ROS 2 tool set, any ROS 2 application already developed runs with Vulcanexus with no migration required at all.
Vulcanexus is a combination of two words “Vulcan” and “Nexus”.
Vulcan, the Roman God of fire and smithery, has been known as the one to forge the first robot ever.
Nexus comes from the Latin verb “nectere” and means “to bind” or “to connect”.
Vulcanexus' name, therefore, represents our will to interconnect robotic and automated systems.
Vulcanexus was launched in 2022 as an All-in-One ROS 2 tool set, with components that complement each other in order to create a unique user experience with outstanding network-optimized results in an effortless way.
The Vulcanexus stack has been created by eProsima, a Spanish SME, specialized in networking middleware. As an important contributor to ROS 2, eProsima discovered the need to offer their users a 360º solution with all their in-house products and tools implemented in ROS 2.
After months of development and fine tuning, we are happy to present Vulcanexus as the first All-in-One ROS 2 tool set with a fixed DDS middleware support.
