Vulcanexus HRI introduces a practical Human-Robot Interaction framework for ROS 2, helping developers build more human-aware robotic systems through perception, communication and interaction capabilities.
Vulcanexus HRI brings Human-Robot Interaction into ROS 2 through a practical framework designed to help developers create more human-aware robotic systems. Presented as a modular stack for perception, communication and interaction, Vulcanexus HRI provides a clear foundation for adding human-centered capabilities to robotic applications while remaining fully integrated within existing Vulcanexus and ROS 2 ecosystems.
The framework includes modules for face detection, human pose recognition, emotion recognition, visual displays, speech-to-text and text-to-speech, together with shared HRI message definitions that help these elements work together as part of one coherent system. These components can be used independently or combined, making the framework suitable both for early experimentation and for more complete interactive applications.
Vulcanexus HRI is prepared to work seamlessly within existing Vulcanexus and ROS 2 ecosystems and leverages Fast DDS latest features, allowing developers to enrich their current robotic applications with human-related information without having to redesign the rest of their stack. In practice, this means teams can incorporate perception and interaction features into systems they already have, then use that human information in the way that best fits their goals, whether for monitoring, communication, assistance or more advanced behavior.
That matters especially now, as HRI continues to evolve at remarkable speed. New perception models, speech technologies and multimodal interfaces are constantly reshaping expectations around what robots should be able to understand and express. In that context, developers need more than isolated features: they need a practical framework that helps them integrate these capabilities in a structured, reusable and scalable way. Vulcanexus HRI answers that need by offering a solid base for building robots that are better prepared to understand people and respond more naturally.
